30 injured in Temple St acid attack
A man is being questioned by police in connection with last night's [Saturday] acid attack in Yau Ma Tei, which left 30 people with minor burns. Officers say they found some evidence -- several plastic bottle-caps -- on the rooftop of a residential building on Nanking Street where the attack occurred, before spotting the man hiding on the exterior wall of the building. Police say the man is in his thirties and lives at that building, but did not say whether he's suspected of carrying out the acid attack. Two bottles of corrosive liquid had been thrown onto the busy Temple Street night market just past 9:30 yesterday evening, showering diners and passersby with acid. A seven year old child and nine tourists were among the injured. All suffered light injuries and all have now been discharged from hospital. It's the latest in a series of similar attacks -- where bottles of acid are dropped from buildings overlooking busy pedestrianised areas. (RTHK)
