This June, China Lion Film Distribution will release the drama celebrating Chinese communism once known as The Founding Of A Party but renamed Beginning of the Great Revival for overseas English-language markets including North America, Australia and New Zealand, the start-up partnered with US theater chain AMC told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.

ReplyDeleteWoohoo! I love the "Crazy" films. :D
Me, too. I'm excited and hope it's as good as the forerunners. Ning Hao is not directing this one though.
ReplyDeleteChanging the subject to A Beautiful Life. It seems like AMC is not really 100% behind their partnership with China Lion. The listing for A Beautiful Life on their website has no poster or trailer -- and even worse, only list the times for two of the theaters where it's supposed to be shown. I work near the Metreon, where the China Lion films usually show in SF, and confirmed that is indeed showing there as of today. But you can't tell from the AMC website or even my local movie listings. Anyway, I hope this isn't a sign that this experiment is doomed for failure.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, maybe it's a local glitch? Or, if they are showing it at 3 locales, cutting back. My, relatively local theater, is listed with all 5 daily show times. Originally, we had 2. There was a VA theater but they dropped out after the first offering, Aftershock.
ReplyDeleteFandango has your theater listed.
Not sure how savvy it was to pick Founding of a Republic for the next film is, though.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I can just imagine Glenn Beck doing a rant about that! ;p
BTW, whatever happened to that "China invades America" movie?
Are you thinking of Red Dawn?
ReplyDeleteThere's also a PLA video game called Glorious Mission in the news lately.
Yeah, that was it... Red Dawn. BTW, I was looking to see if it had been released yet (no, not yet) and found out that the invaders were changed from China to North Korea. LOL! Here's something from Wikipedia about the matter:
ReplyDelete"In March 2011, the Los Angeles Times reported that MGM is changing the villains in its Red Dawn remake from Chinese to North Korean in order to maintain access to China's lucrative box office. The changes reportedly cost less than $1 million and involve changing an opening sequence summarizing the story's fictional backdrop, re-editing two scenes and using digital technology to transform many Chinese symbols to Korean."
Not sure why, but I do like the way Zhang Ziyi looks in those photos (even though I think she has too much eyeliner). Maybe it's the dress?

ReplyDeleteMe too, Walter. I think it's an older, more sophisticated look for her. After all, she's no longer the ingenue she was when she became famous.
(even though I think she has too much eyeliner).
ReplyDeleteI thought so too but maybe it was designed for her to be seen on stage, as seen here:
