"Elisa Lam", Elevators and User-created Posters [Roast Pork Sliced From A Rusty Cleaver] (飲水思源)

Already, fan-generated posters have surfaced for the Elisa Lam (藍可兒) movie. It's a pretty poor example of netizen artwork, though I like capsulizing the story down to the elevator buttons. Much more creative work needed.

Most fan posters for Chinese films are virtually indistinguishable from the real things and sometimes even better. Some recent examples are shown further below. Let's hope for something more imaginative for "Elisa Lam" in the future.

Elsewhere, at the Hong Kong premiere of "The Lone Ranger" two nights ago, Ankie Beilke expressed interest in taking on the lead role and asked her manager to contact the director. And Anthony Wong has also been invited/name-dropped to play one of the hotel guests!

In other elevator-related news, Nick Cheung has shot an elevator scene based on the real CCTV-video footage for his upcoming directorial debut Yu Lan Magic. Cheung has been criticized for being disrespectful to the dead. (Will the scene be eventually excised?) The horror film features Carrie Ng, Annie Liu and is slated for a 2014 release.

Well, this post originally started as post about fan-made posters and I've gone astray. So, back to the putative topic - movie posters by Chinese film fans:

A couple fan-generated concept posters for Jacob Cheung's upcoming "The White-Haired Witch" starring Fan Bingbing and Huang Xiaoming.

Check out some of these fan-created posters for Zhao Wei's "So Young".

Gao Yuanyuan = Elisa Lam? [Roast Pork Sliced From A Rusty Cleaver] (飲水思源)

Elisa Lam

Water tank (via NBC)

A report out of Shenzhen says that actress Gao Yuanyuan has been approached to play Canadian Elisa Lam. Lam was the young woman from Vancouver on holiday in L.A. who was found dead in a water tower at the Cecil Hotel early this year. Surveillance video at the hotel showed Lam acting erratically in the hotel elevator shortly before her death. Drugs and murder were among the various theories about the cause of the woman's death. Eventually, the case was closed and the cause of death was declared accidental. Because her body was not found for weeks, residents of the hotel drank and showered using the water as Lam's body lay decomposing in the rooftop water tank. How Elisa Lam got into the locked tank behind an alarmed-door also remains a mystery.

The movie production is being considered as a joint US-Australian venture. (Sina), 2, (USAToday)

LATimes: Canadian tourist Elisa Lam's death ruled an accidental drowning

Then again, the whole rumour associating Gao Yuanyuan could be a fabrication to parlay the recent announcement of Gao as California's official mainland Chinese tourism ambassador. Or, it's just bad timing. (LATimes)

Further details in another report: Director Liu Hao stayed at the same Cecil Hotel in May for two weeks to conduct interviews and prepare for the film project with an autumn start. As an English-speaking is required for the role, besides Gao Yuanyuan, Ankie Beilke's name has also been mentioned as a potential actress for the role. (Source)
