Ambitious riff on Asian melodrama is diverting but lacks real emotional oxygen.

Rather than offering melodramatic high jinks and endless sequences showcasing Beijing's hypermodern urban landscape - two things which litter mainland romantic comedies of the past few years - Love in the Buff is comparatively restrained, drawing its humour from the way the two Hongkongers consolidate themselves in Beijing through personal and professional relationships they establish there.

The four installments will be edited into one feature film entitled "Beautiful 2012" and will be sent to this year's Cannes International Film Festival.
This year's springtime will see the works of sixth generation Chinese film directors come to life on the nation's cinema screens. From late April to May, "Design of Death" "Guns N 'Roses", "Full Circle" and "An Inaccurate Memoir", all directed by sixth or seventh generation directors, are to be released in cinemas and examined by audiences and critics alike.
The suspense thriller "The Zodiac Mystery" finally passed censorship stages after a three-month-long review, which has reignited the interest of moviegoers.

Blood Stained Shoes premieres tonight before a national release on the 31st.

Rumours are circulating through the weibo-sphere that director Zhang Yimou and long-time business partner producer Zhang Weiping are parting ways. The two either had a falling out due to Yimou's recent marriage "scandal" or differences over money according to the speculation. A superstar and his erstwhile fan develop a high-concept romance when thrown together in an inn two-and-a-half miles above sea level in Johnnie To's gorgeous-looking escapist meller "Romancing in Thin Air."

Feng Xiaogang is undergoing some personal crisis and is contemplating quitting filmmaking according to posts on his Weibo. Feng's film "If You Are the One 2" accounted for a third of Huayi Brothers revenues last year. The stock price of Huayi Brothers has dropped 11 pct since Feng's comment five days ago. Chinese director Wang Quan'an will present his latest film "White Deer Plain" in the main competition, vying for the top award for the third time, after his winning a Gold Bear in 2007 and a Sliver Bear in 2010.
Wang's movie, which is more than three hours long, depicts twists and turns of two major families in a village of Shanxi Province over half a century before 1949, based on a controversial and prize-winning eponymous novel by Chinese outstanding writer Chen Zhongshi.

Zhang Yimou's “The Flowers of War” opened to the No.1 place of mainland box office with $24.07 million over four days, while Tsui Hark's “Flying Swords of Dragon Gate”, which opened 4-hour earlier on the same day last Thursday, seconded the ranking with $22.42 million by Sunday night.
