According to a report from Taiwan's Apple Daily, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Shu Qi will play husband and wife in Hou Hsiao-Hsien's long rumored, since 2007, martial arts fantasy film (The Assassin). The cast also includes Chang Chen and Tadanobu Asano and begins low-key shooting in Nara, Japan now that Shu Qi's If You Are the One 2 has wrapped up. [In July, HHH was granted a $625,000 production subsidy from the Taiwan government's National Development Fund and assurance that 30 percent of the budget would be provided.]

ReplyDelete;D I updated the earlier MV post, too, if you missed it. :D
Yeah, Karen seems perpetually cheery in a sincere sort of way! At least, I'd like to think so.
I second Walter's sentiment. There is something just awesome about seeing Karen Mok on a humongous billboard. I like her more now than I did years ago when she seemed -- at the time -- like the least interesting actress in So Close, for example.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am sick of modern CGI-infested wuxia flicks BUT I will bend for that cast and that director. If Zhang Yimou can do it, let's give Hou Hsiao-Hsien a chance too, right?

ReplyDeleteAnd WKW made Ashes of Time, which this cast is beginning to remind me of.
