FBA: Eternal Moment review (6/10)
Super-slick Valentine's Day movie misses the natural charm of the TV series that inspired it.

Since opening April 20, the film has drawn 103,000 viewers

Tony Ching Siu-Tung regrets that he wasn't able to restore the deleted love/sex scene between Leslie Cheung and Joey Wang in A Chinese Ghost Story. Shooting the film was difficult, 20 NGs were common, 50 NGs sometimes for the relatively new director. Speaking at a Shanghai press conference introducing the restored, now with 5.1 sound, version, Ng See-Yuen said that, originally,  Leslie almost passed up the role because he was reluctant to appear in a film with weird costume and a weird story. Tsui Hark later convinced him that at heart the film was a modern story.  A newcomer at the time, Joey Wang was considered too old for Leslie at first and Jacky Cheung's wife, May Law Mei-Mei, and a Japanese actress were considered.  If the box office is good, Ng plans to restore New Dragon Inn and Green Snake and other classic films which he retains the copyrights to. Shooting under heavy security, the set of Derek Yee's The Great Magician was visited recently. It was learned that Jackie Chan will have a cameo appearance as well as action director duties. Yan Ni and Alex Fong Chung-San, as well as Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Zhou Xun, and Lau Ching-Wan, are among the big name cast members. The day of the visit, Tony was performing magic tricks so reporters were barred from taking photographs. (Sina)

WSJ: In China, Gaga Has Nothing on Gigi
Lady Gaga may rule the Twittersphere with 8,398,412 fans world-wide. But in China, where Twitter is banned, it is Gigi who is the established star in Chinese cyberspace.

To further illustrate, a recent HK TV program featuring Gigi, even after enlisting Valen Hsu and Charlie Young as guests, had received terrible ratings.

But in a mainland English textbook, Gigi is the model incarnation of elegance.

FBA: HKIFF has Heart for popularity, hub role
Mainland Chinese cinema is represented Chen Kaige's Sacrifice, indie animation Piercing I and Wang Bing's  The Ditch and Man With No Name.

The Union Film Enterprise Ltd (Union Film) is one of the most important companies in Hong Kong's filmmaking history
HKFA's new publication "One for All: The Union Film Spirit" with an English edition in CD-ROM will be released in late March, featuring essays contributed by renowned writers and scholars looking at Union Film and its works from various perspectives, by turns historical, aesthetic, and cultural.

Chinese movie fans have grown accustomed to seeing films of similar style that present different versions of the same story—and that will be intensified in 2011.

Cecilia Cheung is facing a boycott threat from a Chinese production company if she does not finish filming The Lady General of the Yang Family.
Major Chinese newspapers reported that Shanghai Film Studio, the second largest film production house in China, had threatened to withdraw its investment of the film if it was not wrapped up by the end of the month.

CRI: 'Single Men and Women' Releases Posters (Don't Go Breaking My Heart)
Director Johnnie To explained his view of a love story, "In most times, a woman can't get married not because she has no choice but because she has too many choices." And in this case there is competition between two excellent guys. It is said that the only way to win a girl's heart is to treat her with sincerity.

Andy Lau sings in English for the first time in a long time.

"Lady Generals" is inspired by the ancient saga of a large family in which widows followed their husbands' steps into the battlefield. Mu Guiying was the most famous one among the lady generals of the Yang family.
