Back from Busan, in Beijing, Li Yu held a press conference to announce that Fan Bingbing will star in Li Yu's next film. Their third collaboration (after Lost in Beijing, Buddha Mountain), its working title is "Double Exposure". She will co-star with Feng Shao-Feng with a cast that includes Joan Chen, Kong Wei, and Huo Siyan. Without revealing much about the plot, the story will involve murder, a layer of secrets and a childhood love.

Li Bingbing promoted the launch of the official website for Snow Flower and The Secret Fan. Li Bingbing will have many lines of dialogue in English in the film though she admitted her proficiency was not that high. She also stressed that the film did not involve homosexuality as reported in the press. When asked, Li Bingbing said that she didn't know the background as to why Zhang Ziyi was dropped by producer Wendi Deng. The film will be released on July 15 after debuting at Cannes.

Having triumphed in last year's Tokyo International Film Festival, winning Best Artistic Contribution and Best Actress for star Fan Bingbing, Li Yu's youth film Buddha Mountain begins showing nationwide Friday.

The female Li is known for previous artistic works including Fish and Elephant (2001), known as China's first lesbian film, and won awards in the Berlin and Venice film festivals. Her Dam Street (2005) also received international acclaim as did Lost in Beijing (2006), the graphic sexual content of which led to a long and unsuccessful battle with domestic censors. Indeed, none of Li's films have enjoyed a cinematic release in her own country.

But her fourth feature film, Buddha Mountain lacks sexual, violent or political content and is, in fact, a relatively mild story. "It [the banning of Lost in Beijing] got on my nerves and I couldn't sleep at nights. I was too stubborn at that time. I have now formed a better relationship with the censorship people, and found a win-win solution: a good film for me that also caused no problem for them," Li told the Global Times.

Painted Skin, the 2008 blockbuster was adapted from the Liaozhai compendium of supernatural tales, and it was more romance than ghost story.
Even so, the regulators made the director delete a gory scene in which the spirit was eating a human heart.

The crew of Buddha Mountain celebrated their awards from the Tokyo Film Festival in Beijing. Fan Bingbing flew back from South Korea to participate. She was awarded Best Actress and Li Yu won the prize for Best Artistic Contribution. Fang Li revealed that Fan Bingbing worked on both Buddha Mountain and Lost in Beijing (Best Supporting Actress, Golden Horse and Best Actress, 4th Eurasia Film Festival) for no fee. Fan also donated the $5000 prize money to the cost of the celebration. In addition, Fan Bingbing presented Li Yu with a Mercedes Smart car to show her gratitude for helping her career. 

 Fan Bingbing's many passionate kisses with Li Yu raised quite a few eyebrows.

Death of another Foxconn worker

A worker has died in an apparent suicide at a factory in Shenzhen run by Taiwan's Foxconn, which makes goods for Apple, Sony and Nokia. Xinhua news agency says the worker died after falling from a building at Foxconn's massive plant, which employs an estimated 400,000 people. There have been 10 earlier suicides there this year. Labour activists blame them on harsh working conditions.
