Zhao Wei's "So Young" [Roast Pork Sliced From A Rusty Cleaver] (飲水思源)

Zhao Wei, with producer Stanley Kwan and screenwriter Li Qiang, held a press conference in Beijing two days ago to release the teaser trailer for her directorial debut film, formerly titled "Farewell to Our Past Youth", now "So Young". The film is scheduled for an April 26 release. Li Qiang's previous credits include "Peacock", "And the Spring Comes" and "The Post Modern Life of My Aunt". (In other news, Charlie Young's "Christmas Rose" will be released April 30.)

"Say Yes" is an adaptation of a popular Japanese TV drama series. Directed by Leste Chen ("Love on Credit"), the film stars Huang Bo, Lin Chi-Ling, Godfrey Kao and Qin Hailu. The Chinese title is literally, "101st Marriage Proposal". Opens Feb. 12.

Zhang Jingchu Making Directing Debut [Roast Pork Sliced From A Rusty Cleaver] (飲水思源)

Zhang Jingchu will play the female lead as well as direct her first film. Launched in Guangzhou, Dec. 29, the film (lit. "If You Can't Make Love") will be executive produced by director Lu Chuan. The film is based on a best-selling novel by Gao Yanan of the same name and is about contemporary marriage, romance, divorce and the second-generation rich. It's described/promoted as a Guangzhou-version of "Love is Not Blind". Filming will also take place in Israel and Hong Kong. According to Lu Chuan, the film will be released next February. Though this is Zhang Jingchu's debut as a director, Zhang graduated from the directing department of the Central Academy of Drama. (HunanTV), 2, (Sohu)

Tang Wei in "Golden Age" [Roast Pork Sliced From A Rusty Cleaver] (飲水思源)

Tang Wei and Feng Shaofeng began shooting in the frigid icy city of Harbin for Ann Hui's new film "Golden Age" in mid-December. The film is based on a screenplay by Li Qiang, Tang Wei plays Xiao Hong, a prominent female writer of the the 1930's who died tragically young at the age of 30 in Hong Kong. A large cast depicting the literary figures in the May 4th Movement is expected. [Update: another film about Xiao Hong, "Falling Flowers" was released last year.]
