Funeral services were held July 10 for veteran film, TVB actor and teacher Chan Yau-Hau who passed away June 12 at the age of 93 (95 or 96 in other reports). A mentor to many younger actors, Anthony Wong said if not for Chan there would be no me. He taught me the history of Chinese drama, Wong said. After the war, he taught drama while holding a single light bulb in one hand according to Wong. Former students Chow Yun-Fat, Liza Wong, Andy Lau, Lau Ching-Wan sent wreaths to the funeral hall while Alex Man, Kam Kwok-Leung, Maggie Chan Mei-Kei attended in person. Josie Ho

Josie Ho's father, gambling king Stanley Ho, suddenly checked into the hospital July 7. He was subsequently released but reporters saw medical equipment being delivered to Ho's mansion. Josie Ho celebrates her 10th anniversary of marriage to Conroy Chan this November.

Zhou Xun, Jia Hongsheng
A painting of Zhou Xun and the late Jia Hongsheng resurfaced recently. It was first exhibited in 2007 in the Chinese New Realism Oil Paintings Exhibition. Zhou Xun was a good friend of the painter and often posed for the artist but this painting was based on a photograph as Zhou Xun was busy working at the time.

Jane Zhang Liangying is a phenomenal talent. While she was with Huayi Brothers she sang the theme songs for many of their big pics, e.g., Mulan, Painted Skin, and TV series.

I went to HKMDB to see if Chan Yau-hau appeared in any oldies that I'd seen and was surprised to see his filmography starting at 1976. Did he work on the stage?

I don't remember seeing him in any of the old films that I've watched.

I'll have to see what the HKFA db has. I see him a lot in the '80s TVB series but I gather he taught a lot, too, so he might be more well known behind the scenes and/or in TV. Maybe radio too? That's my first impression from reading a few Chinese articles.

I noticed there's a 1947 credit under Chan Yau-Hau (2) that might be his also. Haven't had much time to look anything up, spreading myself too thin these days. ;D
