Vulgaria trailer [Roast Pork Sliced From A Rusty Cleaver] (飲水思源)
Another China Lion distributed film opening in North America Sept. 28. The Cat. III "Vulgaria" was a big hit at its debut at Cannes. Directed by Pang Ho-Cheung, it stars Chapman To, Dada Chan, Ronald Cheng, and has many other celebrity cameos.
China Lion Film Distribution is set to ramp up its North American release schedule after acquiring five titles at Cannes as well as targeting films it hopes will cross over to U.S. art house audiences. Its acquisitions for the States, where it has a deal with AMC Entertainment to screen up to 15 titles a year, include the raunchy Hong Kong comedy Vulgaria, Taiwanese romantic comedies Girlfriend Boyfriend and When A Wolf Falls In Love With A Sheep, warlord actioner The Bullet Vanishes and Thai martial arts pic Rebirth. An interesting twist on a classic plot, Dangerous Liaisons is essentially a deluxe soap opera. But with its beautiful cast and gorgeous production design, it is still a highly enjoyable way to waste two hours.

The production company for the upcoming thriller "Nightmare", which is directed by Herman Yau and starring Fiona Sit, Huang Xuan and Zhou Chuchu, announced its July 6th mainland release date yesterday.

In more micro film news, actress Huang Yi is directing her first micro film, "Exchange", based on a true incident in which a female university student inspired by the 'paperclip for a villa' (see links below) exchanged two rings and in four months after three more exchanges built a classroom building. Huang Yi developed an interest in micro films when she was invited to act in another micro film earlier. This time, she was invited by the Shanghai International Film Festival's director of micro film projects to direct and Huang readily accepted.

Damn you, China Lion! It looks like D.C. has been dropped from the list of cities that is getting a release of "Magic to Win" this Friday. Presumably, no future films either. New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver remain on the island.

The film is set in the desert, and tells a tale between a mine owner and several money-mad people who want to buy his mine. The mine owner spends 10 years trying to find gold in the mine, while fending off people's attempts to take it over. In the end, the forces of nature and human triumph over greed.

Moviegoers can get 2-for-1 tickets on China Lion’s December 9th release of ‘Magic to Win’
China Lion Film Distribution announced release dates for two of its planned Chinese New Year’s releases, The Viral Factor, starring Jay Chou and Nicolas Tse, and Alls Well That Ends Well (2012), starring Donnie Yen and Louis Koo. The Viral Factor will open on January 20th, 2012, while Alls Well That Ends Well (2012) will release on January 27th, 2012, throughout North America. In addition, China Lion announced that its next release, Magic to Win, will have a special 2-for-1 ticket promotion that allows moviegoers to print a voucher from their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/chinalionfilm or their website www.chinalionentertainment.com entitling them to a 50 percent discount off two tickets for the December 9th release.
The Viral Factor stars international superstar Jay Chou as an ex-government agent whose involvement in a kidnap rescue mission leads to a meet-up with his corrupt and wanted brother (played by award-winning actor Nicholas Tse). The film is directed by Dante Lam, who previously helmed The Beast Stalker and co-directed the cult classic Beast Cops. The film will open day-and-date on January 20th with Hong Kong.
Alls Well That Ends Well (2012) is a continuation of the popular Hong Kong romantic comedy series that debuted in 1992 and has had six previous installments. The story revolves around different couples experiencing love and heartbreak in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The film stars Chapman To, Donnie Yen, Kelly Chen, Louis Koo, Lynn Hung, Raymond Wong and Sandra Ng. The film series is a Chinese New Year tradition for audiences and China Lion celebrates by releasing for Year of the Dragon celebrations on January 27th, 2012.

"Love in the Buff", directed by Pang Ho-Cheung, and the sequel to his 2010 romance drama "Love in A Puff", has had its first English language promotional poster released.
The makers of "Painted Skin 2" revealed that the trailer was made under the direction of Japanese fantasy master Yoshitaka Amano and other domestic fantasy designers. The 120-second clip does not disclose any specific details about the plot, but does give film fans a glimpse of the fantasy inspired images that feature throughout the movie.

Chow, Alec Su and Japanese actor Hiroshi Tamaki have attended a news conference to preview the historic epic "Tong Que Tai" ("The Bronze Sparrow Terrace").
Li Bingbing said at the event, "The character suits me very well. We are both the same age and at the same stage of life. And I'm single too." As the only single member of the three leads, the 38-year-old actress was "commanded" by Sun and Duan to "catch up" with them as soon as possible.
Produced by Bona Film Group, director Tsui Hark's imminent action blockbuster "Flying Swords of the Dragon Gate" unveiled a new batch of character posters in the run up of its release in December.

Having dropped out of show business and secretly married in Las Vegas in 2007, doe-eyed actress Ng Sin-Lin (Jacklyn Wu Chien-Lien) surprised the media when she appeared in costume at a press conference for a TV drama "Tang Dynasty Romatic Hero". Adding another surprise, she revealed that she had given birth to a baby two years ago. The 43 year-old actress has been living in the mainland with her businessman husband and is returning to acting as a guest on the film because the director and writer are her friends. She said her life is now that of a housewife, she has entered a different stage of life and is family-oriented. The film's cast includes Alex Fong Lik-Sun, Chrissie Chau, Cecilia Yip and AK, a pop duo.
