Lam Suet will star, in his first leading role, in the upcoming Hai Dao Le Yuen ("Island Paradise") which begins shooting in Beijing.  Directed by Fu Yong, Lam Suet and Huo Siyan play a loving but quarrelsome couple.

The cast includes Francis Ng, Terri Kwan, Leni Lan Yan and Christy Chung. Leni Lan Yan plays a key but undisclosed role. Originally, Vivian Hsu was cast but Lan Yan was selected due to her performances in TV and current hot status [from 3D Sex and Zen]. Lam Suet admitted feeling more than a little pressure playing the lead. (Sina) From related Weibo photos, it seems that Jack Kao, Kent Cheng and Kimi Qian Ren-Liang also play roles.

ChinaHush: "No more time-travel drama", authority says it disrespects history
From the end of last year, the time-travel themed drama is becoming more and more popular. Most of these time-travel dramas are based on real historical stories but with many newly added, and usually exaggerated elements to make it funny and more attractive.

Refined perfs and atmospheric naturalism offer pleasurable compensations in "Return Ticket," an overpacked Taiwanese-Chinese co-production. Pic's solid premise taps into the overworked, underpaid underbelly of Shanghai, but breaks down due to too many characters and less-than-clear plot development.[With Qin Hailu, Li Bingbing.]

Comic heartwarmer set in a Chinese-Malay fishing village is both engaging and unpretentious.

"Perfect Rivals" revolves around two families headed by Chen Hao (Ha Yu) and Zhen Mei Mei (Irene Ang) that run rival Bah Kwa stores.
Ha Yu repeatedly steals the show as the affable yet stubborn Chen Hao.
The Hong Kong television veteran knows exactly when to ramp up the drama or bring on the laughs in every single scene he appears in. It never feels forced whether he is trying to make the audience laugh or make them cry.
Ha Yu's comedic timing is impeccable and really shines when paired up with fellow Hong Kong veteran Michelle Yim for one one the film's funniest scenes.

Liu Yifei has been announced as a cast member for Daniel Lee's White Vengeance.
She joins Leon Lai, Jordan Chan, Anthony Wong and Zhang Hanyu as confirmed cast members.

Hong Kong media reports that Chow Yun-Fat and Fan Bingbing are going to star in a China-Japan-South Korea co-production about Yang Guifei with Korean director, Kwak Jae-Yong (My Sassy Girl, Windstruck) at the helm. Japanese actor Shun Oguri is also named in the cast. Contacted by the press, Fan Bingbing denied the report. An announcement in Beijing later this month with details is also in the reports. Betty Sun Li - The Lost Bladesman
Betty Sun Li's absence from promotional activities has led to rumors that she has been 'frozen' because she is pregnant. Another theory is that because her character is the only fictional one, her role is subversive to conventional history. (Sina)

Chow Yun-Fat

Chow Yun-Fat went on a photo field trip in Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province last month to shoot pictures of the rapeseed fields. This is the third time he's visited scenic Wuyuan. Having visited once in winter and twice in spring, Chow hopes to come during autumn to capture the autumn leaves of Wuyuan. Prior to this visit, Chow contacted the local photography club and made arrangements for travel, hospitality and security. (Sina)

The Chinese model was romantically linked to Hong Kong actor Raymond Lam

"3D Sex And Zen: Extreme Ecstasy" executive producer Stephen Shiu Jr. wants Mavis Pan Shuang Shuang for the sequel, according to Chinese reports.
Shiu was quoted as saying "These days, many people have praised the well-endowed and smoking hot Pan. People want to see her in a film."

The former Hong Kong actress is reportedly making a trip back to Hong Kong with her eldest son
Charmaine had been involved in three previous car accidents and have had her driving license suspended twice.
Just when speculation is rife over recent rumours of a Hong Kong actor who contracted HIV, male stars have come forward with complaints of sexual harassment from a gay colleague.
Counter-culture legend Bob Dylan was set to make his long-awaited China debut Wednesday, finally getting approval to bring his charged songs of protest and struggle to a nation bent on quelling dissent.
State media are widely covering Dylan's concerts, with the current edition of the influential Lifeweek magazine doing a cover story on the soon-to-be 70-year-old singer entitled "The Answer Is Still Blowin' in the Wind".
Bob Dylan will play the Worker's Gymnasium in central Beijing before a show in Shanghai on Friday and two more in Hong Kong next week -- commemorating his first major performance on April 11, 1961 in New York, promoters said. (Yahoo)

World's oldest opera singer dies at age 98, (Sina)

Tai Sze-Chung (Dai Si-Chung)
Faye Wong

(July 18) The "Godfather of Hong Kong music", music teacher Tai Sze-Chung passed away at age 69 after a heart attack. Tai began training singers in 1976 and taught generations of singers. Tai nurtured Faye Wong, Anita Mui, Leon Lai, Andy Lau, Nicholas Tse, Aaron Kwok, Daniel Chan and Raymond Lam. Many stars including Michelle Reis, Ray Lui, Gigi Lai, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, and Frankie Lam studied under him. When news first broke that Tai had fell into a coma, Faye Wong called the hospital to get news from relatives and Leon Lai immediately flew to Hong Kong. In 2006, Tai Sze-Chung began training mainland artists such as Betty Sun Li. He often stressed that a good appearance was not a guarantee of long-term success in pop music. Plans for commemorative concerts are under discussion. (Sina), (Xinhua), 2, 3

Tai Sze-Chung was not without some controversy. Two pupils Kevin Cheng and Daniel Chan had contract disputes with Tai and charged him with being 'the music vampire'. In recent days, Daniel Chan seems to have forgiven Tai but Kevin Cheng did not seem conciliatory. In addition, Tai's eldest daughter was supposedly Leon Lai's first love while another daughter was Nicholas Tse's. The eldest daughter, Tai Wan-Wai, eventually married someone else, then divorced and attempted suicide 5 times to blackmail a boyfriend back to Hong Kong from Taiwan. The younger daughter, Tai Sun-Wai, later become linked to Cecilia Cheung's younger brother and singer Lui Fong (another star pupil, and former long-time boyfriend of Carol DoDo Cheng) (Sina), Acclaimed Music Educator Tai See-Chung Dies (CRI)

Yammie Lam
Troubled actress Yammie Lam was hospitalized again two months ago according to her good friend, singer Yeung Man-Li. Yammie was suffering from psychosis and auditory hallucinations. Yeung who is now living in Guangzhou received a call from Yammie complaining of voices in her head and cursing her. Yammie was hospitalized by social workers for psychiatric treatment. Yammie was discharged after she prevailed on Yeung to speak on her behalf but doctors said her situation was not suitable for discharge. Yeung said Yammie was helping her design her new album cover but she looked very thin. Yammie Lam had previously told Yeung many times that she had been raped in Singapore by a powerful Hong Kong entertainment boss. In addition, two former boyfriends, one a DJ, the other a son of a businessman, have reportedly committed suicide over her. (Xinhua), (netease), 2, 3

Kent Cheng
In happier news, Kent Cheng won the Hong Kong Celebrity Bowling Championship recently. Mainly working  in the Mainland the past 20 years, Cheng keeps fit by exercising, playing basketball, badmington and running. Also, he avoids alcohol and tobacco. (Sina)

Joan of Arc?

Anthony Wong speaks out, again: In a press conference for film development, Wong offered up congratulations to Isabella Leong on the birth of her twins. On the Hong Kong Book Fair, Wong said that anyone can go visit the fair but to reveal the color his underwear is strange. Once again he said calling models prostitutes was a metaphor. In fact, Wong called up the analogy of Joan of Arc and said that he was like Joan of Arc! (Xinhua)
