'People Mountain People Sea' paints a grim picture of China in its story of Lao Tie and his quest for revenge in the absence of state justice.

An abridged, two-hour cut for international release has been shown for the world premiere at the 68th Venice International Film Festival, though Wei has stated that it diminishes his original vision. In keeping with the two-part domestic release, The China Post will review the film in two parts.


Mainland suspense-comedy gets released in a Cantonese version for southern audiences. Guangdong audiences have not been responsive to popular northern comedies such as those by Feng Xiaogang. Director Jiang Tao, who is himself Cantonese, oversaw the conversion for the Cantonese edition. (Sina)

After going to a Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital, Tang Wei stopped at kiosk to have a snack of instant noodles and bottle of water before being picked up again by another taxi.
