The film follows seven arhats as they fight a group of four grave robbers at a mountain temple...The film's production company said they intended to produce it as the Chinese version of the Hollywood "Home Alone" series.

Media Asia unveils Johnnie To, Gao Qunshu projects

Tentatively titled Manhunt, Gao’s film is a noir thriller based on a classic Japanese novel, which will likely be transposed to a Chinese setting. His last film, The Message, produced by China’s Huayi Brothers, premiered at Pusan and grossed around $29m in mainland China.

To and Wai’s romantic comedy, which has the working title Single Men & Women, follows a group of singletons in Hong Kong and Beijing and is set to star Daniel Wu, Louis Koo and Gao Yuanyuan. Both Manhunt and Single Men & Women are scheduled to start shooting before the end of the year.

Media Asia also unveiled a string of big-budget action titles including Andrew Lau’s Legend Of The Fist: The Return Of Chen Zhen, starring Donnie Yen; Felix Chong’s action comedy Once A Gangster, and Su Chao-pin’s Reign Of Assassins, starring Michelle Yeoh and produced by John Woo. Fortissimo Films is handling Western and some Asian territories on Reign Of Assassins.

Media Asia is also selling Dante Lam’s Fire Of Conscience, which had its gala premiere at the Hong Kong International Film Festival last night, and thriller Punished, directed by Law Wing-cheong and produced by To, which has Anthony Wong and Richie Jen heading the cast. (Screen Daily)

Ning Hao Lands at Fortissimo
Fortissimo Films has picked up Chinese director Ning Hao’s highly-anticipated road movie No Man’s Land, starring Yu Nan (Tuya’s Marriage) and rising mainland actor Huang Bo.

The deal, negotiated by Fortissimo chairman Michael J. Werner and China Film Group, is for worldwide rights outside Asia but including Japan and Korea. Hong Kong-based Emperor Motion Pictures is handling the rest of Asia.

No Man’s Land follows a lawyer who has a series of mishaps when he ends up stranded in the Gobi desert.

Ning Hao is one of mainland China’s most bankable directors following films such as 2006 sleeper hit Crazy Stone and its follow-up Crazy Racer which grossed more than $14.5m (RMB100m) in China. (Screen Daily)

Ann Hui’s All About Love tops Mega-Vision slate

Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Jing’s Mega-Vision Pictures has announced a slate of new projects including All About Love the latest film from director Ann Hui which is a love triangle between a lesbian couple and a heterosexual man.

Mega-Vision is also lining up its first 3D action film King of Jesters starring two Hong Kong comedians Jim Chim and Wong Cho-lam and featuring Shaolin style kung fu.

Also on Mega-Vision’s slate are Hong Kong filmmaker Patrick Kong’s untitled contemporary drama starring Jennifer Tse, and Wong Jing’s Naked Soldier, which is the third film of Wong’s Naked series, after the success ofNaked Killer (1992) and Naked Weapon (2002). (Screen Daily)

Just Cause brings 3D expertise to China

The first projects it has boarded are Yuen Tak’s action drama Mr And Mrs China and an action film produced by action star Sammo Hung.

Mr And Mrs China will be produced by Beijing-based Qilin Pictures and Hong Kong’s Taklung Film, and will be shot entirely in 3D. Just Cause will be providing 3D stereoscopic pre-visualization, motion capture and virtual camera services for the project. Yuen Tak, who directed Sniper (2008) with Edison Chen, The Myth (2005) with Jackie Chan and The Legend (1993) with Jet Li, makes his directing debut on the film.

The film is set in 1920s China and follows a Chinese man trying to win over his Japanese wife through a series of fight contests. Yuen says the film will be full of action and requires a large amount of motion capture technique in the pre-shooting stage in order to more precisely present the action when shot in 3D cameras.
