THR: The Message reviewed
Bottom Line: A period spy thriller excelling in suspense.

A Korean businessman encounters a Chinese woman he used to know. He cannot speak Chinese. She doesn't understand Korean, either. The only common language they share is English. Remarkably, not much gets lost in translation, an intriguing feat that underscores the strength of director Hur Jin-ho's latest film, "A Good Rain Knows."

I must admit that when I first saw the preview of The Message, the swooping fly-cam immediately gave me a bad impression.

But it sounds like the performances of Zhou Xun and Li Bingbing make the film worth checking out. Oh... and the torture porn, if you're into that kind of thing.

Now, I know why there were so many articles leading up to the release about the trials the actors went through to film those scenes. I guess you gotta have something to lure the public.

Anyway, I seldom watch trailers because they are so often misleading.
